We make every attempt to maintain the "original" hardware on any piece of furniture we restore. Each piece is carefully cleaned and polished to bring it back to it's original luster. We do not add a coat of lacquer at this point to maintain that shine. We prefer to let the brass mellow naturally and develop it's own character. A simple coating of wax will help maintain that shine longer if you wish. |
|
After a hundred years of use, many pieces of hardware are found missing on these pieces. When it is critical and economical, we will have a missing piece or two cast to fill out a set. We also keep a stock of old and odd pieces of hardware that sometimes fills out a missing piece for us, if we are extremely lucky. As a last resort, we use the best quality reproduction hardware that we can find to finish off a piece of furniture. We select the most appropriate styles, look for similarities to the originals, and order only the best castings made. There are lots of ways to scrimp on hardware, but we don't! After all, we want you to be happy, especially with something that you touch every day! |
