Empire Revival "Jelly Roll" Table with 11 Skirted Leaves and 12 Matching Chairs (inventory # EE-49,50) A beautiful solid mahogany table top, 11 original matching leaves all with their original metal pins and inserts make this table a classic banquet table size that stretches to just over 14 feet long. The massive table base is a split pedestal style that hides a large center leg inside (center legs provide extra support for the stretchers that tend to sag in the middle). Once the table top is unlocked, the base splits to accept up to 11 of the original leaves. Each leaf has been skirted to match the unique profile of the table's skirt. To maintain the two pedestals staying upright, there is a unique turnbuckle mechanism to adjust the center crack to it's best position. (Note the lower photo showing the internal mechanism) Because the leaves were all original to this table, the pins fit exactly, the wood was milled at the same time and likely from the same tree and the color is the most perfect match you could find. This table came with a set of 12 matching chairs. The unique design of the stretchers and legs on these chairs has resulted in a good strong design. The front feet have the "Jelly Roll" curl and the crest rail is capped with a curled back cap or hand hold. Each of the chairs exhibits some extraordinary crotch grain on the backs and the seat frame. The wood used in the framing of these chairs is unusually thick 4/4 mahogany. Consequently the chairs are indeed heavier than they look. We removed the original rush seats and replaced them with a new framed upholstered seat. (We still have the original rush seats if you would like them) The upholstered seats have a neutral light gold stripe pattern, but this is easily changed. Currently the table is set up in our store with all the leaves and all 12 chairs around it. The table will comfortably take another 4 chairs around it. The space between the chair seat and the bottom of the table skirt is 8", a very roomy space for knees. We would term this finish color as a "Red Mahogany"- the natural color of this set.
