Danner Revolving Bookcase & Dictionary Stand
(inventory # GG-106)

In 1876 John Danner patented a Pivot & Post design for a revolving bookcase.  His company went on to produce this style and others until 1916.  James Lambie's company added the mechanical devise on top of this bookcase (patented in 1886) that could be used as a dictionary or Bible holder.  Bookcases of this size were often sold to specifically hold Encyclopedia volumes that would fill the shelves.  The compact design allows for a small footprint and close clearances to a wall and was considered quite an innovative office or home library piece.  The shelves will accommodate books up to 11.75" Tall x 7.5" Deep.  The mechanical book stand functions perfectly and allows you to adjust the width of the paddles, the angle needed for viewing and it springs closed when you are ready to close the book.  Original paint on this,  a restored finish on the wood.  Very rare to find these with the dictionary stands!
