What began in 1975 as a way to furnish our first house developed into a full-time business. Up the Creek Antiques was a fitting name for a business that began 15 miles from the nearest town and back up in the hills surrounding the Lincoln Creek valley outside of  Centralia, Washington. We moved here from Maryland's Eastern Shore and established a wholesale business dealing in American antique furniture purchased from our old hunting grounds on the East Coast and selling to dealers around the Pacific Northwest and California to Alaska. Gradually we developed a retail audience and in an attempt to dignify our business name we opened the American Antique Furniture Market in 1990. However, a name like Up the Creek is not easily left behind, hence: Up the Creek's American Antique Furniture Market seems to be the only way to placate everyone. As of July 1st, 2004 we have now come full circle.  We are again Up the Creek Antiques- American Antique Furnishings.
In the Spring of 2004, Up the Creek purchased their own building and the major restoration process began to change an "Ugly Duckling" back to it's original grandeur.  By exposing the original tin ceilings and walls, salvaging old growth fir from the shelving units upstairs for use as our showroom floor and removing the ugly "modernization" that had faced the exterior, our building is now a wonderful historic setting for the antiques that you have become used to seeing us represent.
Our new retail store is a restored 1910 building originally a Woolworth's building and an exclusive hotel on the second floor.  The projected  7,000 square foot showroom that displays antique furniture in a variety of periods, styles and woods along with vintage appointments appropriate to the furnishings.   Although the majority of the pieces for sale are from Up the Creek, there a few  other dealers that have joined us in order to broaden the types of things we can offer. The emphasis is American. Pieces are brought here from the Middle Atlantic States and all over the country.
Our "Classic Creations" custom built pieces are on display in a special setting so you don't confuse them with the real "old" stuff.  Lighting from the turn of the Century is displayed throughout the store along with decorative accent pieces and glassware. It is truly a beautiful store to visit and we welcome customers there everyday from Noon to 5. The store is staffed by Sue on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays with guest appearances by Dan.  Marianne can be found there on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and Fridays.  The Web Site is always open and emails go directly to our home computer.
As of 2006, we now have a new and very large restoration shop close to Centralia committed to restoring pieces faithfully to a working condition. We have some of the finest woodworking tools available along with the woodworkers who know how to use them.  There is hardly any repair that we have not faced successfully in our shop in 25 plus years of business. Custom restoration is now available at this location, so if you have some family heirlooms that need a little help, keep us in mind.  We have carved out a niche in the antique furniture business because of the consistently superior product we put out.
